Purposeful Growth

In the traditional sense, the history of Rockhill Pharmacy started when we opened our doors January 16, 2001, in the heart of Kansas City, Missouri. Yet the concept of who we are today essentially emerged several decades earlier through the vision of our founder, Owen Gahagan, Jr.

As early as the 1970’s, Owen grappled with his firsthand observation that pharmaceutical services for long-term-care (LTC) facilities weren’t attentive enough to that care setting when being administered by community pharmacies with a limited knowledge of the industry.

He suspected that the best outcome would arise if someone within the LTC community administered the solution.

Thus Owen’s path to create a pharmacy solution that’s simply better sprung forth in December 1972, when he planted the seeds for his ambitious vision with Rockhill Manor, an assisted-living campus that meets the needs of adults diagnosed with chronic mental illness.

As the region’s blossoming model for comprehensive supportive care in a private setting, Rockhill Manor has wholly contributed 50+ years of insight toward the ultimate development, vision, and success of Rockhill Pharmacy.

Naturally, our in-house pharmacy team’s earliest focus, which continues today, was ensuring that Rockhill Manor, as a customer, was satisfied. Every procedure, process, and plan was executed in pursuit of 100% accuracy. We persevered through high costs and low volumes. Owen hired the best talent, sought time-tested approaches–then improved upon all of it.

Owen had already realized the full field of his expansive dream when he unexpectedly passed away in April 2012. Pharmacy customers were prospering and scaling for growth. The seeds of his ambitious vision had been sowed and reaped. Without hesitation, Owen’s extended family, and the team he counted as family, firmly grasped the baton for his worldly ambition, pledging to move forward in lockstep and resolutely pursue pharmaceutical excellence in his memory.

The conclusive outcome for today’s expanding and thriving customer base is that we have built trust. The deep roots established by Owen and our talented, tenured team who persist gave rise to an environment where nimbly exceeding expectations is our base level.
